perianal haematoma - General Practice Notebook
Perianal hematoma is a hematoma located in, or on the border of the anus. It is sometimes inappropriately referred to as an external hemorrhoid.
Description:This is a simple procedure that involves numbing the area and making a small incision. A perianal hematoma is a pool of blood that collects in the tissue surrounding the anus. It is therefore important that such cases are seen and the diagnosis confirmed by trained specialist doctors or surgeons. It is best described as a blood blister which occurs very close to the edge of the anal canal opening. If your hematoma has formed a blood clot, your doctor can use this same procedure to remove it. Usually after 7 to 10 days of conservative management it will settle down without the need for operation.
